Who we are
Search Studio Intelligence ("Search Studio", "we") runs the radar. We are the data controller for what you give us here. For anything about your data, email privacy@startuproles.co and a partner reads it.
What we hold about you
- Who you are: your name and email; your LinkedIn link and CV if you give them.
- The conversation: everything you say to Radar, and what Radar says back, so you and we can read it later.
- Your profile: what Radar draws from the conversation: role, function, level, what you have owned, results, what you would move for, comp floor, locations, notice, hard no's, and a strength score.
- Briefs and answers: the briefs we show you, your yes or no, any reasons you give, and the prep notes we write you when you say yes.
- Your pull and your paper: the band your profile sits in against our live searches and when it last moved, the lines we suggest for your LinkedIn, and which ones you tell us you added.
- Your standing: on searches you join, the stage you reach, when you open your page, the one-question score you give us, and emails we send you.
- Referrals: the people you put forward, and who put you forward.
- Housekeeping: a hashed IP address for rate limiting, and the times you were last here.
We do not ask for, and you should not give, your date of birth, national insurance number, health, ethnicity, religion, politics, sexuality or trade-union membership. If you tell Radar something in a special category (health, beliefs, and the like) we do not need it: email privacy@startuproles.co and we remove it within a working day.
How Radar works
Radar is an AI interviewer. Each time you send a message, we send your conversation so far to a third-party language model through OpenRouter and show you the reply. Radar has no access to our clients, live roles, other people's profiles, fees, or anything else internal. It sees your conversation and nothing else, so there is nothing else it could tell you or anyone.
Our matching model scores your profile against live briefs so partners know who to invite. Those scores are advice to a person. No decision with a legal or similarly significant effect on you is made by software alone. A partner decides who is invited to a brief, and a client decides who they meet. You can ask us to explain any read we send you, and to have a person look at it again.
Three other passes use the same kind of model, each on your own data only. When you say yes to a brief, we send that brief exactly as you saw it (no client name) with your profile, to write your prep notes. For "On paper", we send the requirements you have and your public LinkedIn as we last read it, to suggest lines you could add; we read your LinkedIn again only when you ask. The distance compares your profile with briefs reduced to a fixed list of labels, never their wording.
The Read. When you paste a LinkedIn link at /read, we fetch that public profile and send it to the model to write the read and to check it against the partners' standard for each level (a short list of experience, such as owning a P&L or reporting to a board). We also check it privately against the briefs live on our desk, so that if one fits well we can tell you; you never see which, and nobody outside the team sees the result. A read nobody claims is deleted after fourteen days.
Your CV is never sent to a model. It is stored privately for the partners to read.
Why we use it, and the legal basis
- To build and keep your profile, and to contact you about briefs: your consent, which you give when you start the conversation and can withdraw at any time by leaving.
- To match you to briefs and to send you your market read: our legitimate interest in running a search practice, and yours in hearing about roles that fit. You can object at any time by pausing or leaving.
- To run a search you have said yes to: taking steps at your request before a possible contract with the client.
- Security, rate limiting and abuse prevention: our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe.
We do not use your data for advertising and we never sell it.
Who sees your profile
- The Search Studio team. Partners and the people who work with them.
- A client, only after you say yes to that client's brief. You see the brief first, without the company's name. Nothing about you reaches a client before your yes. Once you are in a search, the client holds what we send them under our data sharing terms and their own privacy notice.
- Our providers, who process data for us under contract: the model providers behind Radar and our matching model (which are contractually restricted from training on your conversation), our email provider, and our hosting and database provider. Some are outside the UK; where they are, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.
- Someone you refer is told you put them forward only if you tick the box that says we may. Otherwise we say "someone who rates you".
How long we keep it
- While you are on the radar, including while paused.
- If you do not open your page or talk to Radar for eleven months, we email you once. If we hear nothing for a further month, we delete your profile and conversation.
- When you choose Leave and delete, your profile, conversation, CV link and read are deleted at once. We keep your name and email on a do-not-contact list so we do not approach you again, and the fact that a search happened stays in that search's records.
- Records of searches you joined are kept for as long as the client engagement and our legal obligations require, as set out in the main Privacy Policy.
Your rights
You can see everything we hold on your own page. You can correct it by telling Radar what has changed. You can pause or leave at any time from the page. You also have the right to ask us for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict processing (including profiling), to portability, and to withdraw consent. Email privacy@startuproles.co; we answer within a month. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather hear from you first.
Cookies and this device
The radar pages set no advertising or analytics cookies. Your browser remembers the link to your page on this device so you can come back without the email; clear your site data or use Leave to remove it. Details are in the Cookie Policy.
Candidate terms
- Free. We never charge candidates. Our fees are paid by clients.
- No promise of introductions. Being on the radar means we check your profile against live briefs. It does not guarantee we will invite you to one, or that a client will meet you.
- Be yourself, and be accurate. You confirm the profile is about you, that what you tell Radar is true to the best of your knowledge, and that you have the right to share any CV you upload. We may remove profiles that are misleading or not the person's own.
- Your yes is a real yes. When you say yes to a brief you are asking us to put you forward to that client. You can withdraw from a search at any time by telling your partner.
- Referrals. Only put forward people you know and have reason to think would welcome it. We contact them once.
- Radar is software. It can misunderstand. Correct it, and rely on your partner for anything that matters.
- Changes and ending. We may change or close the radar; if we do, we tell you and this notice governs what happens to your data. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
